Marti Michell Layer Cake Log Cabin Class

A few words about Fabric…Layer Cakes are great because they have a nice assortment of fabrics from a designers line.  However, you may find the the assortment of light and dark squares are not equal.  Often the dark squares for outnumber the lights squares.  Since Log Cabin blocks need an almost equal amount of light and dark fabrics in each block, we have some choices to make.  1.We can usually get about 16 blocks that we really like and use them for a small quilt. 2. Make the 12 block table runner. 3. Or my favorite option, buy another fabric to use as the light and make lots of blocks.  From my layer cake stack I plan to get close to 36 blocks!  You will need 10” for every six blocks.  Marti talks fabric selection on page two of the pattern.
